President’s Blog-Fall 2016

Several thoughts I would like to share with you:

2016 ACHE Member Needs Survey

Your votes are in, following the ACHE 2016 Member Needs Survey conducted in May. Thank you for taking the time to respond to this important survey. Great news is that our Chapter had a 13 % increase in the number of affiliates participating in this year’s survey.

The preliminary results show improvement over the 2015 survey in a number of areas and show that we ranked better in many areas of interest to our affiliates than other chapters on a national comparative basis. Thank you for the good news.

We showed gains in the familiarity with our Chapter’s activities and services; meeting attendance; satisfaction with meetings and events and in this area ranked better than the mean of the results of all other chapters.

Your scores indicated general endorsement of the career assistance services of the Chapter. You recommended continuing to work on several areas: Newsletter; Website; Career development services; and Fellow advancement services.

We will review details of the results of the survey at the next Board meeting (October 20) and brief you at our November 10 Quarterly Breakfast Education session on some of the ideas generated.

Our next Quarterly Breakfast Education session, November 10, at the Houston Junior League Building, will feature two special programs:

A. Our friend, colleague and favorite son, Chuck Stokes, FACHE, Chief Operating Officer of the Memorial Hermann Health System, and incoming Chairman of the American College of HealthCare Executives, will provide an update on the state of the ACHE and be with us as part of the College’s continuing efforts to get the Chairman Officers with the Affiliates throughout the country.

B. Also joining us will be Ted Shaw, President of the Texas Hospital Association. Ted will be giving us one of the first glimpses into the expected impact of the 2016 National Election results from the November 8 elections. The first post mortem we will have a chance to receive focusing on healthcare issues of concern to us all.

Be sure to encourage your family, your employees, and friends to vote in the November 8 elections!

Chapter Board Member Election

Your Board’s Vice President, Jeanna Barnard, CEO of Bayshore Medical Center, Pasadena, will be leading us through the election of five new Board members for three-year terms; one Board member to fill a vacancy for a one-year term; and the new Vice-President of the Chapter Board at our Quarterly Breakfast Education session on November 10.   Watch for Jeanna’s update to you with the Nominating Committee’s recommendations of these important nominations to lead your Board through 2017 shortly.

Warmest Regards,

Jack Buckley, FACHE
