The Student Membership and Involvement Committee is urgently inviting you to participate in a high-stakes, 2-part online panel event featuring a lineup of accomplished Administrative Fellows.

Save the dates: June 21st and June 27th, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (CT). Don’t let this golden opportunity slip away as your future could depend on it!

Prepare to delve into the core purpose of fellowships, discover strategies to make yourself a highly competitive candidate, and demystify the application process. Gain insights on what to anticipate during the screening phase, learn about the realities of fellowship life, and set realistic expectations for success post-fellowship.

These enlightening panel discussions will take place via Zoom, ensuring maximum accessibility and convenience. Mark your calendars for Part 1 on June 21st and Part 2 on June 27th, both from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (CT).

Alla Adams, Moderator

Alla Adams, MSPH, MSHA, CHFP, PhD

Dr. Adams is Associate Professor of Healthcare Administration, MHA Program Director, and BSHA Program Coordinator at Park University. She has strategic and operational management experience gained from working at academic medical centers such as the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center and the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf. Her publications include articles on ethical issues in research with human participants, quality of board governance in nonprofit healthcare organizations, negotiating managed care contracts, and developing soft management skills in future healthcare leaders. Her speeches and seminars have included topics on care coordination models, organizational innovations in healthcare organizations, innovative leadership in healthcare organizations, international cooperation as strategic growth, health care strategic marketing and planning, and developing soft management skills in future healthcare leaders.

Kori Thomas, Panelist

Kori Thomas – Administrative Fellow at Baylor College of Medicine 

My name is Kori Thomas, and I am currently an administrative fellow at Baylor College of Medicine. I completed my Master’s degree in Health Administration from the University of Iowa, where I also completed both of my undergraduate degrees. My interest in healthcare administration was generated from my passion for global health and nonprofit work.

Ciara Sanchez, Panelist

Ciara Sanchez – Administrative Fellow at Texas Children’s Hospital

Ciara is devoted to advancing the delivery of healthcare and eager to contribute to the well-being of her community. She obtained her Master of Health Administration from Texas A&M University in May 2023. While in graduate school, Ciara worked at St. Joseph Medical Group as a Patient Access Representative and Administrative Intern. In collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, she worked to enhance patient care and improve operational efficiency within the 28 outpatient clinics. Within the same health system, Ciara interned with St. Luke’s Health – The Woodlands Hospital, focusing on physician onboarding and quality improvement initiatives. Through her job experience, Ciara gained valuable insights that revealed her passion for clinical operations and a deep-rooted commitment to enhancing healthcare accessibility.

Before her graduate studies, Ciara received her B.S. in Public Health from Texas A&M University – School of Public Health, preparing her with the fundamental skills to solve today’s health challenges through strong leadership, cooperative efforts across disciplines, and a focus on health equity. Ciara is excited to join Texas Children’s Hospital as an Administrative Fellow and she aspires to contribute to the nationally ranked Endocrinology Department and the autism program at TCH. She is excited for her fellowship year and hopes her experiences will develop her knowledge and skills to become an effective leader in healthcare, contributing to Texas Children’s mission to create a healthier future for children and women.

Louise Goldberg, Panelist

Louise Goldberg – Administrative Fellow at MD Anderson

Louise Goldberg started her career as a clinical dietitian caring for patients in a variety of healthcare settings. When she opened her private practice, she discovered a love for the business side of healthcare, recognizing the significant impact this can also have on a patient’s care. After working as a clinical manager for 2 departments at Memorial Hermann for many years, she went back to school to obtain her MBA and strengthen her business acumen. Since graduation in 2022, Louise has been working as one of the administrative fellows at MD Anderson Cancer Center, to better understand how executive leaders make decisions and work together to meet the needs of the organization and patient community they serve.

Athena Le,
Panelist

Athena Le – Administrative Fellow at Kelsey-Seybold Clinic

Athena Le is a native Houstonian who received her Master of Public Health Degree in Healthcare Management from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHEALTH) School of Public Health & Bachelor of Science in Public Health with a minor in Biology from Baylor University. Athena completed an Administrative Fellowship from Kelsey-Seybold Clinic (June 2022-May 2023) and transitioned into the role of Project Manager for Virtual Care at KSC in May 2023. Her other healthcare experience includes the Houston Methodist COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics, UTHealth School of Public Health, and CVS Pharmacy. She has past internship experience from The Houston Health Department, Legacy Community Health, and Houston Methodist DeBakey CV Education. 

June 27 Panel Participants

Benson Kumenda, Moderator

Benson Kumenda was born in Indiana and raised in Houston, Texas. He recently completed his bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Studies at the University of Texas at Dallas.

Currently, he is furthering his education by pursuing a dual MHA/MBA degree from Texas Women’s University. Benson’s educational background in healthcare studies and his ongoing pursuit of an MHA/MBA highlight his deep interest and dedication to the healthcare industry. He is particularly passionate about health policy and is eager to contribute to the improvement and advancement of healthcare delivery. Benson aspires to make a positive impact in his community by utilizing his knowledge and skills in healthcare management.

Outside of his academic pursuits, Benson values spending quality time with his loved ones. He enjoys being surrounded by friends and family, cherishing these moments of connection and shared experiences. Additionally, Benson has a fondness for travel, which allows him to explore new places, experience diverse cultures, and broaden his perspectives

Raven Bennet, Panelist

Raven Bennet – Administrative Fellow at Kelsey-Seybold Clinic

Raven is a native Texan who completed her Bachelor of Science in Biology at the University of Texas at El Paso. Prior to her fellowship at Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, Raven was an Administrative Coordinator at Houston Methodist Hospital. In this role, she coordinated and directed COVID-19 vaccination clinics across the system, with a focus on efficiency and staffing, compensation management, and communication outreach. Raven also completed an additional two internships at Houston Methodist. During the summer, Raven was selected to join the Summer Operations Program as an Operations Intern with the Quality and Patient Safety Department. She conducted projects involved with process improvement and standardization, program development, and curriculum development. Following this, she was selected to become an Administrative Intern for the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. In this role, Raven developed training and supplemental materials for DEI topics, curated communication processes, and created awareness content. Raven has recently completed her fellowship, where she had a comprehensive experience working on projects related to front desk optimization, lab insourcing, strategic growth initiatives and more. Raven has transitioned into a Operations Project Manager role supporting the Associate Medical Director and the Senior VP of Ambulatory Services at Kelsey-Seybold Clinic.

Brenden Brown, Panelist

Brenden Brown was born and raised in Delray Beach, Florida. He lived in Orlando, Florida while completing his undergraduate and graduate degrees, where he received his Master of Healthcare Administration and Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences from the University of Central Florida. Following his first year of graduate school, Brenden completed an administrative internship at Sheppard Pratt, which is the nation’s largest private, nonprofit provider of mental health, substance use, special education and developmental disability services. In this role, he developed a training module focused on cultural competency and DEI, conducted an in-depth market analysis to assess mental and behavioral health needs, and standardized consulting engagements within clinical operations. Brenden has a passion for serving underserved communities and being an advocate for health equity and looks forward to serving the Houston Methodist community at large. Prior to graduating from the University of Central Florida, Brenden was inducted into the 2023 Class of Order of Pegasus for his work in the Central Florida community.

Kimberly Jimmez, Panelist

Kimberly Jimmez – Administrative Fellow at Houston Methodist

Kimberly Jimenez is a current Administrative Fellow at Houston Methodist. Originally from the Houston area, she lived in Chicago while studying for her undergraduate and graduate degrees, where she received her master’s in Public Health and her bachelor’s degree in Economics and Global Health Studies, both from Northwestern University. While completing her master’s, Kimberly worked with a national non-profit dedicated to vaccine information, resources, and access, supporting efforts across the country to combat misinformation and improve access to life-saving vaccines. The skills she developed in her experiences with various non-profit organizations range from organizing community meetings with Congressional Representatives across several states, to writing briefings based on the newest COVID-19 data and CDC recommendations, and she enjoys bringing what she already knows into new projects and learning new things along the way. Outside of work, Kimberly enjoys exploring new places, cooking and baking, and spending time with her family, friends, and French bulldog, Stormi.
