Meals on Wheels for Greater Houston and Galveston County program provides home delivered meals to over 5,000 home-bound seniors and adults with disability in five counties – Harris Galveston, Montgomery, Liberty and Chambers. The programs also delivers weekend meals and a week’s worth of breakfast to about a quarter of our most frail and isolated clients. This nutritional support helps people stay independent and in their own homes.
WHERE: Volunteers will assist with meal assembly in the Meals on Wheels warehouse at 1111 Stuart Street, Houston, TX 77004.
PARKING: Park at 3202 San Jacinto Street (use the 1111 Stuart Street gate). As you enter the Meals on Wheels parking lot, you’ll see an 18-wheeler trailer with the MOW logo. Park in that parking lot across from the sliding glass doors.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING: Depending on the number of volunteers who come, the group may be split but will work in nearby rooms. One group may be involved in “Breakfast Bag Assembly” and the other may be working with pet food packaging. This is NOT delivery of the meals.
DRESS CODE: Dress comfortably for physical work, but we recommend long pants. Close-toed shoes and masks are required, but long necklaces and lanyards are not allowed due to safety precautions. Bring an apron if you wish.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:
- There is cold water and restrooms nearby.
- We will be in a climate-controlled warehouse.
- Anyone with long hair is strongly encouraged to wear it up.
- Children 6 and older are welcome but be aware of safety considerations in a working warehouse.
REGISTRATION: Registration is free, but please register using the button below so that we know who is coming for the 30 slots available.
