Austin, Texas, Thursday, February 18, 2010 – Debra Sukin and Don Gibson, two members of your local chapter, received the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) Early and Senior Career Healthcare Executive Regent’s Award today at the ACHE/Texas Hospital Association Leadership Conference during a breakfast session at the Renaissance Hotel. Assisting in the presentation of the awards was the keynote speaker Charles Evans, FACHE, the 2009-2010 Chairman of ACHE. Mr. Evans is also President/CEO of the International Health Services Group in Alpharetta, GA.
ACHE affiliates considered for this award are evaluated on leadership ability, innovative and creative management, executive capability in developing their own organization and promoting its growth and stature in the community, contributions to the development of others in the healthcare profession, leadership in local, state, or provincial hospital and health association activities, participation in civic/community activities and projects, participation in ACHE activities and interest in assisting ACHE in achieving its objectives.

The Early Career Healthcare Executive Regent’s Award and the Senior Level Healthcare Executive Regent’s Award were bestowed on Debra F. Sukin and Don R. Gibson by Ron Castagno, FACHE, President of ACHE – SETC, representing Dr. David Fine, FACHE, ACHE’s Regent for the southeast Texas area. Dr. Fine is also President and Chief Executive Officer of St. Luke’s Episcopal Health System. This Award recognizes ACHE affiliates who have significantly contributed toward the advancement of healthcare management excellence and the achievement of the goals of ACHE.
Debra F. Sukin is currently Group Vice President/CEO, St. Luke’s The Woodlands Hospital and St. Luke’s Lakeside Hospital, The Woodlands. Prior to this she served as Vice President of Operations, The Methodist Hospital, Houston. She graduated in 1994 with a master in health administration from the Washington University in St. Louis. Debra completed her health administration fellowship training in 1996 at Duke University Hospital and Health System. She is currently working on obtaining her FACHE credentials, demonstrating a commitment to professional excellence.
Don R. Gibson is board certified in healthcare management. He is the President of Quantum Leadership, Inc., parent company of Quantum Health Resources & Associates, a consulting firm that provides executive coaching and management workshops. Prior to starting his own companies Don was an internal consultant for the Sisters of Charity Healthcare System (now known as CHRISTUS). Through the management services of Quantum Leadership, Don is also the Executive Director of Business Operations for one of the nation’s largest ACHE affiliated independent chapters, ACHE – SouthEastTexasChapter, with over 1200 members. He graduated in 1980 with a master in health administration from the Washington University in St. Louis and completed his residency training at Holmes Regional Medical Center, Melbourne, Florida. Don also has a master in biology from Southern Illinois University. He also serves as adjunct faculty for MHA and MBA graduate students for the University of Houston – Clear Lake, Texas Medical Center and facilitates the ACHE Board of Governor’s Exam Work Study Groups, sponsored by ACHE – SETC.
